How to Take Care of Skin in the 40’s?
While there is no way you can have a 20 year olds’ skin in your 40’s, you can try to have skin that looks like that of a 30 year old. Below are some tips that will allow you to do just that.
You will have to use cleansers that are minimally abrasive. While skin in your 30’s can handle strong cleansers that will contain acids like salicylic acids, skin in your 40’s might actually have negative effects from the use of cleansing creams that contain salicylic acid.
You can maybe use a cleanser that will contain salicylic acid to see if it will irritate your skin in any way. If it does, go with creamy cleanser. If it doesn’t, you should still use a cleanser with salicylic acid only once, in the morning. During the evenings, always use a creamy cleanser.
One trick that will allow you to use moisturizers to revive your skin in the 40’s is to make use of more than one moisturizing cream. As you might already know, the market is full of moisturizing creams that have unique ingredients that will help rejuvenate your skin.
Since no moisturizer packs in all of these rejuvenating ingredients into one tube, you can help your skin by wearing a moisturizer that will use antioxidants on one day and a moisturizer that will contain tea extracts or a concoction of healthy vitamins one day.
However, don’t stretch your selection of moisturizers with more than 2 creams as you don’t want to risk too many things going on with your facial skin.
Prescription retinoid cream
40’s is the decade in your life when you might need to make the switch from over the counter retinoid creams to prescription strength retinoid creams. Such powerful prescription retinoid creams might be able to reverse sun damage, increase elasticity and even eliminate brown and black spots, with consistent usage.
Such creams can however be a little too powerful. If you notice any kind of irritation, reduce the usage to just once in two days.
No matter how hard you try to help your skin with beauty products, you have to understand that aging after 40 is not completely stoppable. You can however give the best chance for your skin to glow and shine through your 40’s, by making some lifestyle changes that will help your skin.
Begin to avoid exposure to the sun as skin on a 40 year old is easily susceptible to wrinkles, brown spots and dark spots, even with short exposures. You must also make it a point to make some very healthy diet choices if you want great looking skin past your middle age.
Eat more fish and less of foods that contain a lot of fat and sugar. Cut down on your caffeine and alcohol intake and also drink more water than normal. Wear sunscreen at all times during the day, even when you are in an indoor room that is awash with bright sunlight.
